DapUp Inc. ("DapUp", “Company”, “we”, “us”, or “our”) is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your information when you use our mobile application (“DapUp” or the “App”), website, and related services (collectively, the “Services”).

By accessing or using DapUp, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy and consent to the data practices described herein.

 

1. Information We Collect

We collect several types of information to provide and improve our Services:

A. Information You Provide to Us Directly

  • Account Information: When you register, we collect your name, phone number, email address, gender (optional), date of birth, profile photo, and bio.
  • Contact Information: With your explicit permission, we collect your device’s contact list to enable mutual contact discovery features.
  • User Content: This includes messages, photos, media, and other content submitted through your profile or conversations.
  • Feedback and Support Requests: When you reach out to our support team, we collect the content of your communication and contact details.

B. Information We Collect Automatically

  • Location Data: We collect precise geolocation (via GPS, Wi-Fi, and cell towers) to enable discovery features and suggest connections near you. Location tracking only occurs with your opt-in consent.
  • Device and Usage Data: Includes device type, operating system, unique device identifiers, IP address, mobile network information, app version, language settings, screen interactions, session lengths, and crash logs.
  • Log and Event Data: When you interact with the App, we log user activity (e.g., profile views, swipes, time online) for analytics and abuse prevention.
  • Cookies and Tracking Technologies: While DapUp is mobile-first, web-based elements may use cookies or similar tools to remember preferences and understand aggregate usage.

 

2. How We Use Your Information

We use your information for the following purposes:

  • To operate and maintain the App: Including account setup, mutual discovery, profile visibility, and messaging features.
  • To personalize your experience: Including suggesting people you may know, location-based interactions, and optimizing user feed.
  • To communicate with you: Service updates, security alerts, account issues, and customer service replies.
  • To monitor and improve the App: Usage analysis, testing new features, and preventing bugs or outages.
  • To ensure safety and security: Including user report processing, spam detection, abuse prevention, and enforcement of our Terms of Use.
  • To comply with legal obligations: Including fraud prevention, responding to lawful requests, and enforcing contractual rights.

 

3. Sharing and Disclosure of Your Information

We do not sell your personal data. We share information only as necessary:

A. With Service Providers and Partners

We engage third-party service providers under strict confidentiality terms to perform functions such as:

  • Cloud hosting (e.g., Google Firebase, AWS)
  • Analytics (e.g., Mixpanel, Google Analytics for Firebase)
  • Push notifications (e.g., OneSignal, FCM)
  • Customer support (e.g., Intercom, Freshdesk)
  • Payment processing (e.g., Stripe, Apple Pay, Google Pay)

B. With Other Users

Basic profile data (name, photo, age, bio) is visible to others during mutual contact discovery or connection requests.
Messages are shared between users only upon connection, and we do not retain or access messages post-delivery if end-to-end encryption is enabled.

C. For Legal or Safety Reasons

We may disclose your data to third parties:

  • To comply with laws, regulations, or legal processes (e.g., subpoenas)
  • To enforce our Terms and Conditions
  • To protect the rights, property, or safety of DapUp, its users, or the public

D. In Business Transfers

If DapUp undergoes a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. You will be notified of any material changes in ownership or use.

 

4. Your Rights and Choices

A. Account Controls

You can:

  • Edit your profile
  • Manage location and contact access permissions via device settings
  • Enable or disable discovery and visibility settings
  • Deactivate or delete your account in the app

B. Communications

  • You can opt-out of promotional emails and messages through the unsubscribe link or app settings.
  • Service messages (e.g., account or security updates) may still be sent.

C. CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act) Rights

If you reside in California, you have the right to:

  • Know what personal information we collect, use, and share
  • Access your data and request a portable copy
  • Request deletion of your personal information
  • Opt-out of data sales (DapUp does not sell user data)

5. Data Security

We take security seriously and implement safeguards to protect your data:

  • Data is encrypted in transit (TLS) and at rest
  • Access to personal data is limited to authorized personnel
  • Our infrastructure is regularly tested for vulnerabilities
  • We employ device-level safeguards to prevent unauthorized access

That said, no system is completely secure, and you are advised to protect your credentials and report suspicious activity.

 

6. Data Retention

We retain your information:

  • As long as your account is active.
  • For a reasonable period after deletion (30–60 days) for backup, legal, or fraud-prevention purposes.
  • As required by law.

You may request data deletion via the in-app delete option or by emailing us.

 

7. Children’s Privacy

DapUp is not directed to children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 18. If we become aware that a user is under 18, we will delete their account and all associated data.

 

8. International Data Transfers

Although DapUp is U.S.-based, users from other countries may access the App. If you use DapUp from outside the United States, you consent to transferring your data to and being governed by U.S. data laws, which may differ from your country’s regulations.

 

9. Do Not Track (DNT) Signals

We currently do not respond to DNT browser signals, as there is no universal standard for this setting.

 

10. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If material changes are made, we will notify you through the App or by email. Please review the Policy periodically. Continued use of the App after updates constitutes your acceptance.
